Key activities:

 

***This position holds a dual reporting structure and has two functions, split equally.***

 

The Music Education Associate for Artist Training and Adult Learning is responsible for assisting in the operations of the NAC Orchestra artist training programs. Responsibilities include program promotion, application and auditions processing, program scheduling including repertoire selection and communications, and event planning and management. The Associate liaises with the applicants and selected participants. They assist, as needed, with the NACO cast and Explore the Symphony podcasts and the Musically Speaking programming, including caring for the artists, managing artist contracts, and booking the facilities. The Associate also assists with the planning of education events for NACO tours.

 

The Assistant to the Music Director strategically supports the artistic leader of the NAC Orchestra by maintaining his schedule, planning his travel and managing his yearly travel budget, and oversees his administrative duties for the NAC Orchestra. As his representative, the Assistant keeps the Music Director’s work life organized by coordinating with the Music and Music Education departments, the President of the NAC Foundation and the CEO of the NAC, as well as the Music Director’s agent in London, UK. The Assistant coordinates the scheduling of his media events with the NAC’s Marketing, Communications and Digital Design staff, and researches, prepares and translates as necessary the materials required for media events and public presentations, including Musically Speaking pre-concert talks and concert remarks to the audience. The Assistant coordinates the Music Director’s score requests with the NAC Music Librarians. Lastly, the Assistant manages a budget of $70,000.

 

Required qualifications:

 

  • Post-secondary degree in Music, Arts Administration, Events Management or a relevant field of study and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in arts administration;
  • Experience with logistics, planning and scheduling;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Zoom, and social media;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong problem-solving skills, initiative and sound judgement;
  • Ability to evaluate and manage priorities;
  • Ability to work under pressure as part of a very busy team;
  • Discreet, flexible and available to work within an irregular schedule, including weekdays, evenings and weekends, especially during artist training program dates;
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license;
  • Fluent in both official languages (English and French).
