Sweetacre Apiaries is a small, yet growing commercial beekeeping operation located in the Shuswap Lake region of British Columbia. We specialize in raising quality local honeybee stock, selling both mated queens and nucleus (starter) colonies. Being family owned and operated, we are proud of what we do and it shows: our bees are treated with the utmost care using only management and organic acids to maintain optimal hive health. You will find our natural honey sold at markets or distributed through many fine stores right in the Southern Interior of BC. We also trap and sell fresh frozen bee pollen. And lastly, using our own beeswax, we create beautiful, long-lasting candles in many shapes and forms.
We are currently looking for two (2) skilled, reliable beekeeping technician to join our team. To succeed in this role, you will need to have a tolerance for bee venom, be able to work flexible long hours, and be comfortable working outside in the heat or the rain.
Job Duties and expectations:
- Feed and tend bees
- Perform or assist in performing breeding activities
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment
- Follow food safety and security and animal bio-security procedures
- Detect disease and health problems
- Maintain or assist in the maintenance of facilities and farm infrastructure including cleaning bee equipment and honeyhouse maintenance
- Must have a basic knowledge of power tools
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision
Requirements education/work experience:
- Must have basic knowledge about an apiary/bee yard
- Must have a basic knowledge of power tools
Terms/location/contact information:
These positions are for seven months, from April 2021 through October 2021, based on 30 hours per week. There are 2 positions to be filled.
Wage: $20 per hour. There are no benefits.
