Job Title: Cabinetmaker

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Cabinetmaker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in woodworking, including the use of various machines and hand tools, and be capable of interpreting plans and specifications to produce custom cabinetry. This position requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.


Education

  • Minimum Education Required:

    Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

    or

    Equivalent experience


Experience

  • Required Work Experience:

    7 months to less than 1 year


Languages

  • Official Languages:

    English

  • Additional Languages:

    Not required, but other languages may be considered an asset.


Work Site Environment

  • Fast-paced environment

  • Standing for extended periods

  • Manual dexterity

Work Setting

  • Custom woodworking shop

  • Furniture or cabinetry manufacturing facility

  • On-site installation (occasionally)


Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Operate woodworking machines such as power saws, jointers, mortisers, and shapers to cut, shape, and form parts and components

  • Prepare specifications of custom-made cabinets that maximize storage

  • Shape surfaces or edges of wood workpieces using hand tools (planes, chisels, wood files)

  • Study plans, specifications or drawings of articles to be made

  • Operate CADD and other computer software systems for design and planning

  • Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete units

  • Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain, or polish

  • Apply varnish or laminated plastics to finished products

  • Repair or restyle wooden furniture and related products

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment

  • Estimate costs and materials required for projects

  • Instruct apprentices and supervise other workers


Credentials

  • Certificates, licences, memberships, and training in cabinetmaking or woodworking (preferred but not mandatory)


Experience and Specialization

  • Computer and Technology Knowledge:

    Experience with CADD or woodworking design software (preferred)

  • Area of Specialization:

    Custom cabinets, furniture manufacturing, restoration

  • Must adhere to workplace health and safety guidelines

  • May require background check, depending on employer

Transportation/Travel Information

  • Public transportation may be available

  • Must be able to travel to worksite if required
