Position: Carpenter
NOC Code: 72310

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to determine precise dimensions, materials, and specifications for door installation projects.
  • Measure and cut materials, including wood, metal, and composite substitutes, to exact dimensions required for the installation of doors and frames.
  • Install doors, door frames, and associated hardware, ensuring all components are level, properly aligned, and functioning as per specifications.
  • Fabricate and assemble door frames, using appropriate tools and techniques to meet design and project requirements.
  • Fit and install trim and finishings such as mouldings and handles to complete the installation of doors and door frames.
  • Adjust and repair doors and frames to ensure smooth operation, correct alignment, and compliance with safety and accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including other tradespeople (electricians, painters, etc.), to ensure the timely and efficient completion of door installation projects.
  • Maintain and ensure proper use of carpentry tools and equipment, following safety protocols to avoid work hazards.
  • Supervise apprentices and junior carpenters, providing guidance and quality checks to maintain standards throughout the installation process.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot existing door systems, performing repairs or replacements as needed to meet client specifications or resolve issues with functionality are met.
  • Collaborate with project managers and clients to provide cost estimates and ensure client specifications are met throughout the project.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of direct work experience in carpentry, including door installation.
  • Ability to work independently or lead a team of carpenters and apprentices.
  • Experience in the installation of commercial doors and windows is an asset.
  • Familiarity with lightweight steel framing and related construction methods.
