About Us:

The mandate of Elections Alberta is to administer open, fair, and impartial elections to Albertans by providing stakeholders with the necessary information and means to participate in the democratic process. We also provide support to election officials to ensure impartial service delivery and serve in an advisory and regulatory role to achieve compliance in electoral finance activities.

Elections Alberta is a non-partisan office of the Legislative Assembly.

Role:

Do you have a passion for the democratic process? Do you love working with people and embrace diversity? Are you a self-starter who isn't afraid of a challenge and can achieve goals independently?

Elections Alberta is seeking applications for the position of Community Outreach Coordinator. This is a two-year temporary position with the possibility of extension. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated individual to play a lead role in the successful planning, delivery, and execution of Elections Alberta’s community outreach initiatives. Through a variety of experiences, you will have a profound impact on individuals as they participate in the democratic process.

Reporting to the Manager, Election Operations, the Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for building relationships to enhance the voting experience, minimize barriers to participation, and build general awareness of democracy, elections, and civic participation in Alberta. Your work will impact diverse electors, communities and organizations across the province, including Indigenous People, students and youth, people with disabilities, Canadian Armed Forces, new voters, absentee voters, ethno-cultural communities, First Nations, Métis Settlements, Hutterite colonies, people experiencing poverty and houselessness, seniors, and incarcerated electors.

As an Elections Alberta ambassador, you will execute outreach events, deliver presentations, and develop outreach materials. You will coordinate and support outreach activities conducted by returning officers in local electoral divisions leading up to the 2023 provincial general election. You will work closely with the Operations team and contribute to the development of election processes and materials that are open, accessible, and meet the diverse needs of Albertans.

You will leverage your relationship management skills as you interact with future voters, electors, organization and community representatives, and colleagues. As a self-starter you should be comfortable working independently and as a part of a team. Effective time management skills are essential to the success of the position, and project planning skills are considered an asset. If you already possess superb communication skills, demonstrate social perceptiveness, and excel presenting to groups of all sizes, this is your next adventure.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience, which may include:

    1. Cross-cultural experience, particularly experience working with key stakeholder groups
    2. Communicating with diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing
    3. Project and/or event coordination, managing projects or project components
    4. Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders to deliver projects/events
    5. Preference may be given to applicants with work experience in election administration
  • Verbal and written fluency in English is required, and the ability to communicate in additional languages is an asset
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and to work effectively in a variety of settings and cross-cultural situations
  • Effective research and analytical skills
  • Creativity, initiative, and resourcefulness, with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, and other software as appropriate, to produce documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, and to effectively communicate with colleagues and stakeholders

Applicants must be willing and able to:

  • Fulfil the requirement to act as a non-partisan representative of Elections Alberta
  • Travel occasionally to locations throughout the province (valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle are required)
  • Work outside normal business hours occasionally during events or to meet deadlines
