On behalf of our client, Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre (KMHC), we are seeking a Director of Finance. KMHC, located on the vibrant Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, is 73-bed inpatient facility in a homelike environment and provides extensive outpatient services. KMHC is dedicated to strengthening the health and well-being of Onkwehshon:’a (people) and providing quality health and preventative care services.

The Director of Finance is responsible for the day-to-day financial management and full-cycle accounting functions, including reporting and financial analysis. This role contributes to KMHC’s short and long term financial planning by directing financial policies, processes and standards and ensures accountability and compliance. The Director of Finance assists the Executive Director by providing technical support and advisory expertise in the areas of financial analysis, reporting and budgeting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management and Budgeting:

  • Design, develop and implement a financial framework to support all areas of the financial function
  • Develops and maintains effective financial operations, systems and procedures
  • Conducts finance and accounting program evaluations, budget analysis and develops recommendations for improvement
  • Works closely with all members of the Finance department to improve the processes, accuracy and efficiency of the department
  • Oversees the operations and daily activities of accounting staff
  • Directs and oversees purchasing and inventory
  • Develops key and operational performance indicators and targets
  • Develops the annual budget, including forecasting of revenues and expenses with the Executive Director
  • Develops budget projections in conjunction with Finance team and performs program budget analysis and variances

Financial Reporting:

  • Monitors KMHC’s financial position and performs high level accounting functions
  • Produces financial reports in compliance with established standards and prepares annual, monthly and weekly reports
  • Ensures financial reporting and procedural compliance with federal and provincial regulatory standards and GAAP
  • Performs month end closing procedures on assigned financial statement items
  • Prepares various financial reconciliations and remittances
  • Assists with the preparation of monthly internal and external financial reporting packages
  • Coordinates the year-end audit process including the review and/or preparation of working papers, schedules, analysis and other required documentation

Financial Policies, Procedures and Controls:

  • Analyzes current financial and operational procedures and policies
  • Identifies risk factors and areas in need of improvement
  • Analyzes and develops recommendations and implementation plans for improvements to financial controls, policies and processes
  • Evaluates and recommends improvements to the accounting systems to improve internal controls and efficiencies
  • Ensures risks are managed with appropriate internal controls
  • Ensures financial and accounting policies and procedures are kept current and are being adhered to
  • Ensures the continuous improvement of the organization through evaluation and implementation of financial policy and procedures
  • Monitors relevant financial industry standards and trends and ensures KMHC financial systems and controls are compliant

Leadership:

  • Upholds the financial integrity of the Kateri Memorial Hospital Centre
  • Acts as a resource and provides assistance to the Executive Director with respect to financial information, issues and reports
  • Provides day-to-day leadership and leads the development of a positive and constructive culture through the facilitation of teamwork, effective change management and ongoing and immediate conflict resolution
  • Provides coaching and mentorship to finance team
  • Ensures effective performance of all team members within the department through the effective establishment, communication and measurement of performance expectations
  • Presents information to senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Develops key and operational performance indicators and targets

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in business administration, finance or related field
  • CPA or CAFM designation
  • 5 years financial management experience
  • Experience in healthcare or with healthcare systems would be an asset
  • Understands an environment that honours the wisdom of Indigenous beliefs, language, culture and traditions
  • Information technology background with working knowledge of SAGE AccPac and other accounting software
  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial control systems and procedures
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Sound judgement and decision-making ability
  • Ability to communicate in the French language would be an asset
  • The willingness to learn the Kanien’kéha language is required
