Key activities:
Under the direction of the Parking Manager, the successful candidate is responsible for performing a range of interior and exterior grounds maintenance duties including, but not limited to, snow and ice clearings of all outside terraces, stairs, walkways, sidewalks and front and back doors of the NAC building.
 
Duties also include:
• Salting, sanding or safeguarding all pedestrian surface areas to ensure the safety of the public;
• Power sweeping our underground parking lot and outdoor laneways along with helping with the occasional move of furniture in office spaces;
• Shoveling all snow and ice accumulation by hand as required;
• Operating and maintaining snow removal and other facility maintenance equipment including snow blowers and/or snow brushes;
• Performing other duties of the Facility team, as required, during non-snow days or other months of the year;
• Working during weekends and after hours.
 
Required qualifications:
• A high school diploma;
• One (1) year experience in a similar labourer position;
• Good physical and technical skills to operate machinery needed to perform power sweeping and snow clearing tasks;
• Must be able to lift up to 30lbs on a regular basis;
• Must be able to stand & exert well paced mobility for up to 8 hours;
• Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill labourer tasks;
• Ability to follow directions and work with limited supervision;
• Ability to work under pressure and to react quickly in emergency situations;
• Must be friendly, upbeat, and work well with other employees and be able to interact with guests;
• WHMIS training a definite asset and will be required upon hire;
• Must be available for emergency calls during the winter months;
• Proof of a valid driver’s license (equivalent to an Ontario G class permit) and clean driver abstract;
• Bilingual in both official languages (English and French) would be an asset;
• A past record of satisfactory attendance and punctuality is a requirement*.
*Regular attendance at work is an expectation of employment and an essential part of every job.
