Description

Ulnooweg Development Group Inc. is looking for a new team member with a background in fisheries and business development to join its Fisheries Business Development Team.

Working as part of this team, you will provide a range of business support to Indigenous communities and their Commercial Fisheries Enterprises including guidance on strategic planning, business planning, governance, project management, and fisheries business operations.

In this role, you will provide advice and assistance to each community’s fisheries including opportunities for development, management capacities, structures, practices, challenges, development needs, and staffing. You will also work with the community’s fisheries management leaders and staff, and other support resources, to undertake business planning and development activities.

You will assist with the development and implementation of Commercial Fisheries Business Development Plans, and monitor outcomes and results.

As the ideal candidate, you are an Indigenous person—preferably early in your career—with knowledge of the fishing industry and an understanding of the issues and challenges facing the development of commercial fisheries opportunities. You are also a graduate from a post-secondary educational institution with training in a related field. You have a willingness to learn and would welcome the in-house mentoring support provided by other members of the business development team.

You are familiar with the business support programs of the federal and provincial governments and other agencies. Knowledge of state-of-the-art performance standards and rural economic development best practices are also beneficial for this role.

In addition, well-honed interpersonal and communication skills will provide the sensitivity and relationship building skills required to work collaboratively at all times.

Experience working with Indigenous communities and some ability to speak and understand French and/or Mi’Kmaq and Maliseet languages are considered assets. Frequent travel within New Brunswick will be required for this position.
