Job Duties:
Preparing the vessel for departure including fueling, loading gear, and bait,
repairs, and maintenance
Relieve Captain of their duties during rest
Fishing activities including baiting hooks, hauling gear, freezing fish
General mechanical duties of the vessel, oil checks, transferring fuel, starting
engines and generators
Determine areas for fishing, plot courses and compute navigational positions using compasses, charts, tables and other aids
Steer vessels and operate navigational instruments and electronic fishing aids such as echo sounders and chart plotters
Direct fishing operations and supervise crew activities
Record fishing progress, crew activities, weather and sea conditions on ship's log
Job Requirements:
Attention to detail
Knowledge of vessels, fishing gear, and mechanical duties
Able to read a compass and other navigation equipment
Physically fit
Mechanically inclined
Able to be on the water for long periods of time
Experience with recording and logging activities
Work Experience:
Minimum 5 years experience as a mate or captain and on long-line fishing vessel
Education:
High school graduation Captain Ticket 150 Gross Ton in international waters DFO commercial fishing license (employer will help obtain)
