Salary: | $23.50 per hour–The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions. |
Other benefits: | None other than employer CPP and EI contributions |
Vacation: | 4 % of the gross salary |
Hours of Work: | 32-40 hours a week |
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conduct routine medical laboratory tests and set up, clean and maintain medical laboratory equipment
- Collect blood and urine samples and prepare them for testing
- Conduct routine laboratory tests such as: Processing urine (urinalysis), Streptococcal swab testing, Pregnancy test (urine sample)
- Labelling, and logging specimens’ samples including date and time of collection and prepare for testing
- Taking patient’s vital signs
- Set-up procedural preparation in each doctor’s room
- Performing ECG
- Autoclaving instruments
- Centrifuging blood samples with its recommended speed and time
- Perform quality assurance of testing techniques
- Maintain quality results verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and testing procedures, monitoring quality control measures and protocols.
- Serves as technical resource by participating in staff training
- Maintain patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Completion of a college level program in medical laboratory science or related discipline is required
- Minimum one-year experience as a technician in a medical laboratory environment is required
- Certification by the OSMT/MLPAO is desired
- Practical knowledge of common lab equipment and patient coordination software such as tracker is required
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
