The National Arts Centre (NAC) is Canada’s bilingual, multi-disciplinary home for the performing arts. The NAC presents, creates, produces, and co-produces performing arts programming in various streams—the NAC Orchestra, Dance, English Theatre, French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, and Popular Music and Variety.  The Centre also invests and nurtures in our next generation of audiences and artists from across Canada.  Our vision is to lead and support the renewal of the Canadian performing arts sector over the next three years, as detailed in The Next Act, the NAC’s strategic plan for 2020-2023. Through collaboration and investment in creation, production, co-production, and dissemination, along with a heightened focus on community engagement, learning, and innovation, the NAC will shape a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for the performing arts in Canada.

Key activities:

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Visitor Experience, the incumbent helps plan, prepare, organize and execute the annual subscription renewal and acquisition campaigns, as well as the sale of single events, festivals, galas, special events, promotions and discounts.  The Program Specialist works with the Senior Coordinator for Ticketing System and Database, to organize and coordinate the services in Box Office in order to accommodate the needs of the Programming, Marketing and Development departments and those of other key stakeholders.  The Program Specialist also helps train and coach the Patron Services team in sales and data processes to ensure correct processing of all sales and thereby help maintain the accuracy of the database.  The incumbent is accountable for the efficient and accurate handling of subscription orders and the performance of general clerical and administrative duties associated with the sale of subscriptions.

Required qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education with a minimum of two (2) years related customer service experience in a box office environment;
  • Experience in dealing with monetary transactions;
  • Fluently bilingual in both official languages (verbal and written);
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently;
  • Strong understanding of subscription and single ticket procedures related to the performing arts;
  • Sound organizational and time management skills and the ability to evaluate, prioritize and manage a variety of competing demands and activities simultaneously;
  • Detail oriented with excellent documentation skills;
  • High level of ownership, accountability and initiative;
  • Ability to work under pressure in an energetic and fast-paced environment and deliver accurate results quickly to stay ahead of business needs;
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently solve problems;
  • Excellent judgement, professionalism, tact and diplomacy;
  • Thorough knowledge of ticketing platforms and Box Office software;
  • Advanced level in MS Office Suite, strong understanding of and ability to use spreadsheets and the use of Internet;
  • Basic understanding of HTML an asset;
  • A past record of satisfactory attendance and punctuality is a requirement*
