Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Engagement and in collaboration with the Well Series Coordinator and Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS), the Project Coordinator, Indigenous Access and Transition will lead and coordinate the engagement, development, implementation and feedback process for Sheridan's Indigenous Access, Transition and Mentoring Program The program is designed to support the specific needs of Indigenous youth in our communities, including students entering and attending Sheridan.  The goal of the project is to increase access to post secondary education and help learners thrive and persist once they are enrolled. Faculty and staff at Sheridan will continue to develop curriculum and programming to support this project.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Working with Facilitators, the incumbent schedules, organizes and plans in-depth consultation sessions with key Indigenous leaders/stakeholders and Sheridan staff to determine needs of Indigenous youth as they relate to overcoming barriers, accessing, and thriving in post-secondary education;
  • Guiding in the promotion and logistics to deliver Sheridan’s Indigenous Access, Transition and Mentoring Program to Indigenous youth in our regions;
  • Arranging qualitative and quantitative program evaluations to assess impact, report on results, and recommend improvements to the program. Seeks feedback from students to enhance, adjust and create programming offerings;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

About You

You have a high level of intercultural competence coupled with a deep understanding of the application of principles of inclusivity.

You bring understanding of Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing and Indigenous Protocols with respect to research (relevance, respect, responsibility, reciprocity).

You are student centred with a passion for facilitating student success and enhancing the student experience.

You have excellent project management skills with the ability to manage tight timelines, budgets and set clear objectives.

You bring knowledge of emerging trends and issues affecting post-secondary education along with the ability to research, analyze and summarize information.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • 3 year diploma/degree in any related expertise
  • 3 years related experience including planning projects (Equivalency to be considered)
  • Preference for a candidate who identifies as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, Inuit)
  • Knowledge of Indigenous, equity, inclusion, and social justice approaches to inform programming.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous educational issues and barriers, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Final Report, Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples (RCAP), Colleges and Institutes Canada Indigenous Education Protocol and other resources pertaining to Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of iSpring, Hopin, MS Teams, SLATE/D2L, NVivo or a desire to learn new technologies.

Campus Location:    Trafalgar (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus) once normal campus operations resume. This position is currently working remotely.
