Mekker Construction Ltd. (Zero Defects) is looking for an experienced Restoration Stonemason to start immediately, for work on various projects involving the restoration of Historic Buildings. Our company provides an array of building restoration services to meet the needs of architects, engineers and property managers in Ontario (e.g. balcony restoration, façade restoration, stucco/EIFS install and interior repairs, etc.). Our team of professionals combines a strong knowledge of building envelope engineering with the best quality materials and workmanship to deliver exceptional services and cost-effective plans.
This position involves the following main duties & responsibilities:
– Read sketches and blueprints to calculate materials required;
– Restoration of masonry including Historic Buildings;
– Cutting and laying stones for masonry work according to project specifications using hand and power tools;
– Removing existing brick and stonework;
– Preparing heritage lime mortars;
– Preparing and setting stones for the construction of walls;
– Background in the restoration of Historic Buildings;
– Proficient in the use of proprietary repair mortars & epoxy for the conservation treatments of stone;
– Cleaning of Heritage brick & stone buildings, including the use of poultices;
– Cutting and repointing of joints in between bricks and stones;
– Laying stone for the facing on walls;
– Finishing setting of stonework;
– Installing stone-cladding system;
– Cavity grouting and tuck-pointing; etc.
Additional Skills:
• Experience in restoration of historic buildings
• Working at heights is mandatory
