The National Arts Centre (NAC) is Canada’s bilingual, multi-disciplinary home for the performing arts. The NAC presents, creates, produces, and co-produces performing arts programming in various streams—the NAC Orchestra, Dance, English Theatre, French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, and Popular Music and Variety.  The Centre also invests and nurtures in our next generation of audiences and artists from across Canada.  Our vision is to lead and support the renewal of the Canadian performing arts sector over the next three years, as detailed in The Next Act, the NAC’s strategic plan for 2020-2023. Through collaboration and investment in creation, production, co-production, and dissemination, along with a heightened focus on community engagement, learning, and innovation, the NAC will shape a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for the performing arts in Canada.

 

Key activities:

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Translation Services, the incumbent will proofread, translate and, when needed, adapt (from English to French) internal and external administrative documents as well as content in the following disciplines: music of all genres, dance, theatre and varieties. The Translator-Revisor will be involved in various major projects and will often be tasked with adapting creative content. The incumbent will provide terminology support to all services and departments and will help develop the NAC’s translation memory system and internal lexicons. The ideal candidate is a strong proponent of equity and inclusion and will help implement inclusive language guidelines across the organization.

Specific duties include:

  • Translate, proofread and adapt creative and administrative content while preserving tone and language level;
  • Conduct terminology research;
  • Contribute terminology and content to the Centre’s translation memory system and lexicons;
  • Provide linguistic support to all staff, including inclusive language guidance;
  • Run point on certain projects, including translation, proofing and delivery;
  • Ensure quality control.

Required qualifications:

  • University degree in Translation or a related field;
  • At least five (5) years of experience in translation, preferably in the arts industry;
  • Bilingualism in both official languages (imperative);
  • Detail-oriented and conscientious;
  • Demonstrated initiative, autonomy and exceptional organizational skills;
  • Creative skills and the ability to adapt marketing content;
  • Ability to work with a team and excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to handle multiple projects;
  • Flexibility in dealing with urgent requests;
  • Excellent working knowledge of online terminology tools;
  • High productivity levels;
  • Training or degree in an artistic field (asset);
  • Working knowledge of a translation management system (asset);
  • Past record of satisfactory attendance and punctuality required.*
