Skills Requirements:

• Education: Completion of secondary/high school graduation certificate
• Work experience: 3 years to less than 5 years of experience as a truck driver is required
• MELT Certification
• Class 1/1F/A Driver’s License

Job duties:

• Operate and drive primarily tractor-trailers, long-combination vehicles and straight-body trucks weighing over 4500 kg to transport goods and materials over long distances including across Canada and across border to the United States
• Plan trip logistics and obtain the required documentation to transport goods such as automotive parts or refer loads with goods such as fresh produce such as vegetables
• Perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspection of vehicle systems, equipment, and accessories such as tires, lights and turning signals, brakes, and cold storage
• Ensure cargo is secured properly in accordance with safety requirements and follow safety procedures
• Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo across border on international routes to the United States
• Record cargo information, hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel consumption
• Administer bills of lading and manually or electronically maintain log books
• Communicate with the dispatcher, other drivers, and customers using communication devices and on-board computers
• May perform emergency roadside repairs
• May be required to run overnight or multi-day trips
• Professionalism in customer service
• Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment
• Document knowledge of Driver logbook, trip reports, accident or incident reports, Inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip)
