Who We Are

The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

What We Do

The Office of Economic Growth and Innovation (Innovation Office) accelerates collaboration with businesses, investors and other regulators to support innovation; facilitates capital formation and regulatory burden reduction; and promotes new technology solutions intended to reduce costs and help accelerate financial services innovation.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Innovation Office, and working with the Director and the management team, the Manager, Innovation Outreach and Engagement is a key member of the Innovation Office leadership team and plays a key role in developing and implementing the Innovation Office’s core objective to strengthen outreach and engagement.

The Manager, Innovation Outreach & Engagement will lead a team that is responsible for executing the Innovation Office’s outreach and engagement strategy and enhancing the OSC’s visibility as an innovative and agile regulator.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the team that will coordinate, in close collaboration with the Innovation Office management team, the outreach and engagement strategy of the Innovation Office
  • Work closely with the Director and Innovation Office management team to develop and implement the outreach, social media campaign and engagement strategy
  • Establish, develop, expand, strengthen, and engage in more proactive and interactive outreach with the broader stakeholder community
  • Develop, implement, and monitor performance measures of the Innovation Office’s outreach and engagement efforts, as well as overall public awareness
  • Lead the development and implementation of an integrated media and communications strategy
  • Strategize and lead testing interactive methods of communication to targeted groups to inform and receive feedback about OSC policy, operations and methods to drive innovative business ideas, processes and tools to enhance capital markets efficiency, and help reduce burden on our capital market participants and investors
  • Coordinate building of long-term relationships with influencers and key stakeholders such as start-ups and early-stage businesses, innovation hubs and accelerators, fintech and regtech providers, private and venture capital investors, government, and other stakeholders in the innovation community
  • Support the Director in day-to-day management of the branch, including business planning, reporting, budgets, resources, and staffing

Qualifications for Success:

  • 8 years or more of demonstrated experience and success in public affairs, strategic communications, marketing and/or effective stakeholder outreach strategies in complex multi-stakeholder environments
  • Strong leadership and management skills with experience leading a team that is responsible for interactive engagement with personas and various stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills – both interpersonal and written
  • Experience managing integrated media campaign and communications strategies, including marketing, public outreach or communications – ideally with knowledge of the roll-out of integrated campaigns and an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of various channels, and how they interact, and understanding of social media “voice” management
  • Deep understanding of traditional and online marketing, search engine optimization, digital content development and the use of analytics
  • Sophisticated understanding of modern outreach strategies and tactics, including segmenting of audiences, new technology tools for mobilization, and persuasive messaging
  • Knowledge of the Canadian capital markets and securities regulation is an asset
  • Post-graduate degree or professional designation in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or equivalent
  • Highly motivated leader and team player who is proactive, and able to organize competing complex tasks and set priorities in a dynamic environment
