JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Plastics Machine Operator (Pouch Operator)

LOCATION: Mississauga, ON

REPORTS TO: Production Manager or Director of Operations

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time, permanent (30+ hours a week)

STARTING DATE: ASAP

WAGE: 28.40-32.00

 

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Plastics Machine Operator (Pouch Operator) sets up and operates packaging machines that convert laminated films into pouches and packing solutions that meet or exceed customer quality specifications by performing the following duties. The position requires shift flexibility. Please do not apply if you cannot work between the hours of 12:00-2am.

Essential Duties

  1. Ensure personal compliance with all company Quality System, Operational, and Human Resource policies, procedures, and practices, including Safety and completes required documentation accurately and timely.
  2. Weigh and mix materials, change rolls, cut out splices and prepare machine to specification for manufacturing pouches and packaging solutions.
  3. Operate machines to pouches and packing solutions.
  4. Sets stops or guides machinery to specified length as indicated.
  5. Supervise Assistants and assign duties.
  6. Performs required quality testing on products produced, i.e. burst test, drop test, water table test, etc.
  7. Maintain production reports and perform quality control checks and data entry of finished products.
  8. Operate and observe machine operation to specification, monitor manufacturing to maintain workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
  9. Ensures job is in order prior to machine set-up and reads job specifications, including previous run data (if available) to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  10. Reports any necessary maintenance and unsafe working conditions of the machine to the engineering department using a written work order.
  11. Participates in on-going training opportunities and supports a continuous quality improvement environment.
  12. Pack items for further packaging and processing by other departments.
  13. Keeps the work area clean including trash and trim removal.
  14. Assists and works cooperatively with assistant machine operators to stack, mark, pack, and transport finished boxes.
  15. Other duties as assigned by management and supervisors: could be asked to support other parts of the operations including press assistant, slitting, and lamination.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Possess and foster a positive attitude of learning and respect.
  • Ability to take ownership of work and also work as part of a team.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  • Strong verbal communications skills.
  • Visual acuity to color consistency.
  • Manual coordination and dexterity while utilizing hand tools and cleaning equipment
  • Be able to work safely around operating machinery.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as hairnets, steel-toed shoes, and facility specific uniform requirements.

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • You must have at least one year of experience in a similar role.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of flexible packaging films is a plus.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be flexible in work schedule.
