Description

Algoma University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Psychotherapy to work on the development and launch of the Indigenous Pathway Stream of the Masters of Psychotherapy (MAP) program at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are seeking a collaborative educator, practitioner, and scholar who will help shape an innovative graduate program grounded in culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and community-engaged psychotherapy education. The successful candidate must have lived experience within Anishinaabe culture, demonstrate knowledge of Indigenous ways of knowing, and bring a deep commitment to advancing truth, reconciliation, and healing within graduate psychotherapy training.  The ideal candidate will hold a terminal master’s degree or doctorate in a clinical discipline such as Psychotherapy, Counselling, Social Work, Clinical/School Psychology, Applied Behaviour Analysis, or a related field. Applicants will demonstrate excellence in teaching, clinical supervision, and psychotherapy practice, including experience delivering courses such as empirical foundations of psychotherapy, microskills, professional ethics, cultural responsiveness, and trauma-informed care. Knowledge of Indigenous psychotherapies, land-based healing practices, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings is required, as is familiarity with the TRC Calls to Action as they relate to therapeutic practice and healing. Candidates should have a developing or established research program and be eager to supervise graduate student projects. This position offers the opportunity to build a first-of-its-kind psychotherapy program that centres cross-cultural learning, community partnership, and student development. We are seeking a colleague who will contribute to the growth of a supportive, accountable, and relational academic community committed to Indigenous knowledge, mental-health workforce development, and meaningful reconciliation.
