Primary Job Duties:
Relationship Management
- Build relationships with domestic suppliers and negotiate with them for the best pricing terms
- Leverage professional network to consult, select and purchase high-quality industrial machinery products and materials
- Review quotations, set supplier contract terms and schedules
- Constantly look for optimal price and terms, develop new suppliers and learn new products
Logistics and Distribution
- Prepare purchase orders, verify specifications; substitute items as needed based on approval
- Purchase material for inventory and non-stock items for the department
- Assess establishment’s specifications and develop a specification booklet for equipment, materials, consumables and supplies
- Work with marketing and shipping department to establish weekly and monthly ship schedules based on underlying order volumes and booking schedule
- Arrange and maintain land, air and maritime transportation schedules for all outbound shipments and monitor loading capacity amongst all shifts
Documentation & Reporting
- Create, develop and implement procedures to ensure accurate data information stored across departments
- Ensure accurate and timely completion and retention of all critical source documentation (i.e., labelling, tracking downloads, Customs clearance paperwork, etc.)
- Provide timely and data-driven analytics to support the identification and quantification of value improvement opportunities
- Complete other internal requests, tasks, and projects as determined by management
- Work with the finance department to complete routine reconciliations
- Assist the operational support of procurement tools and systems
Supervisory Experience
- Review new project proposals for the company
- Monitor and forecast upcoming levels of demand
- Manage and mitigate risks
- Oversee the negotiations of all purchases made by the purchasing department
- Hire and train purchasing department staff
Minimum qualifications:
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Machinery, Supply Chain Management or relevant field
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Access
- Proven experience in building partnerships with supplier and vendor resource
- Solid understanding of customer service, receiving, put-away, picking, shipping, inventory management, transportation, etc.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills to summarize and evaluate quotations/tenders and make recommendations
- Exposure in machinery purchasing, intern-continental logistic, import and export sectors preferred experience
- Knowledge of supply chain cost management would be considered an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with comfort in client-facing interactions
- Ability to plan, organize, multi-task and adapt quickly to changes and short deadlines
