Job Responsibilities
Tasks:
• Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, or instructions to determine surface preparation and painting requirements.
• Select appropriate paints, varnishes, primers, and tools for each project based on surface material and project specifications.
• Prepare surfaces by sanding, scraping, using putty or plaster to fill cracks and holes, and removing old paint or debris.
• Make on-site preparations such as setting up ladders, scaffolding, drop cloths, and protecting fixtures or furniture from paint splatter.
• Mix and apply paints, sealants, or varnishes using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment to achieve the desired finish.
• Match and apply paint colors to meet specifications or customer preferences.
• Cover exposed surfaces or objects using masking tape, plastic sheeting, or cloths to prevent unwanted paint coverage.
• Inspect and assess painted surfaces for uniform coverage, quality, and adherence to standards.
• Follow all workplace safety protocols and ensure the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and supplies.
• Maintain painting tools and equipment by cleaning and storing them properly after each job.
• Collaborate with other workers, designers, or construction specialists to coordinate workflow and ensure project deadlines are met.
• Purchase or request required paint and supply inventory, ensuring materials are available as needed.
